Thank you for your interest in participating in the Great Ocean Walk, approximately 50-55 kms and three days of amazing scenery from Apollo Bay to Johanna Beach.

Our accommodation will be in Apollo Bay and we will be transferred each day to and from the trail head by minibus, which will allow us to leave our belongings at our accommodation. All you will need to carry will be a day pack with your snacks, lunch and water bottles and obviously anything essential such as medications, hats, sunscreen etc.

This document provides is not a comprehensive guide of all equipment you would need, nor does it provide everything you need to do in order to ensure your fitness levels are adequate for the Walk. BANG Fitness Adventures will discuss each individual’s fitness and medical concerns with the individual and will provide a training guide to be followed as well as free training events that participants can attend. Interstate and International participants will need to source suitable training facilities however BANG Fitness Adventures will endeavour to assist where possible with advice and support.

As a general rule, cross training will be the most suitable form of training, a mix of cardiovascular and resistance training to ensure adequate muscle strength and endurance and heart health. The intensity of each leg of the Great Ocean Walk will depend on many factors, some of which include weather, incline, surfaces, duration of each leg etc., so the more variety you can implement in your training the better prepared you are likely to be.

It is important to note though that the Great Ocean Walk is an experience, not a race. We will walk as a group, and participants can rest as required, and frequent breaks will be had to ensure we rehydrate and eat as well as stop to enjoy the stunning views.

The Great Ocean Walk will follow the plan laid below. Please note that the daily start/stop points may vary slightly due to inclement weather etc., however if we are prepared physically and with appropriate clothing etc., we shouldn’t have any dramas. Thousands of people have walked the trail and had an amazing experience

Day One – We will meet at our accommodation, or some may elect to stay the night before if travelling. We grab our food and water for the day and head to Marengo by mini bus and begin our walk to Blanket Bay where we will be picked up and transferred back to Apollo Bay. We walk approximately 19km on Day one.

Day Two – We commence our Great Ocean Walk at Blanket Bay, and will walk to Aire River. We will see a wide variety of terrain types, including beach walking, stairs, forest walking and trails over the three days.  This leg is approximately 19kms.

Day Three – We finish our Adventure with the walk from Aire River to Johanna Beach, with a spectacular walk under an escarpment to Castle Cove and then some more forest walking before we come out onto Johanna Beach and finish our three day walk with spectacular beach walking –approximately 15kms today.

Our meals will be fully catered for and BANG Fitness Adventures will provide a grab bag of snacks and goodies to sustain you along the way, however if you have dietary concerns or preferences for your own snacks you are free to bring them with you. Obviously we have no refrigeration facilities during the day so snacks need to be non-perishable and we are also highly aware of leaving the environment as we found it, so all rubbish and containers must be carried home with us so that the next users of the trail may enjoy it the same way we have.

We may meet other groups on the Great Ocean Walk and we encourage you to introduce yourselves and share experiences and impressions along the way. We are all there to enjoy an incredible experience and meet like-minded people.

Given the distance from towns, there are limited sources of fresh water available other than at the designated camp sites along the Walk that are maintained by Parks Victoria. We will be ensuring that we carry enough drink bottles to sustain us between campsites and to purify water before drinking it.

Most days will involve 6 to 7 hours of walking over a variety of terrain, with plenty of time for taking photos, sitting and absorbing the incredible scenery nature has provided us, chatting with fellow participants, rehydrating and eating and simply resting up when we need a break. We want this to be an experience to savour, to relish and to immerse yourself into, coming out the other end with an appreciation of exactly what you are capable of and with a sense of perspective about how you can overcome future challenges in your lives.

Full price is $975 per person including all meals and accommodation, insurance, transport to and from trail head eacah day and the experience of yours Matt Jolley leading the walk – having completed the Great Ocean Walk 14 times, Kokoda three times, climbed Mt Batur in Bali 6 times and having climbed Mt Rinjani on Lombok last October, I am very experienced in trekking and the preparation required to complete it safely and enjoyably!

But don’t be afraid to see if we can offer a discount for sharing the experience with a friend or family member!

Information on payment details and discounts for full payment, referrals of friends and family and clients to our Great Ocean Walk can be found in the document BANG Fitness Adventures Great Ocean Walk Info and Payment Plan which you can obtain by e mailing us at info@bangfitness.com.au

Places will be limited on this Adventure with no more than 10 participants per trek leader, and a maximum of 15 participants. To experience this walk to full effect we don’t want to overcrowd the event which allows time to reflect without being overwhelmed by sheer numbers.

Some of our participants have elected to use our events as an opportunity to raise funds for a cause close to them, and we would be pleased to be able to assist you in any way by holding information sessions, or participating in your events where possible.

Please feel free to contact Matt Jolley on 0400 207 303 or e mail info@bangfitness.com.au for more information or head to our website at www.bangfitness.com.au and click on the Adventures tab for our events.
