The Maria Island Experience October 2021

Friday 22nd October – Sunday 24th October, 2021

Join us in stunning Tasmania as BANG Fitness Adventures takes a long weekend escape to Maria Island!

We’ll be enjoying some of the East Coast of Tasmania’s most inspiring views as we take on the Bishop and Clerk Walk as well as walking to the top of Mt Maria.

There’s some challenging terrain including some rock scrambling in places so make sure you’re fit and ready!

We’ll stay one night in Hobart on Thursday 21st October and then be bussed to Triabunna to catch a ferry across to Maria Island, where we will stay two nights in the Penitentiary dormitory accommodation. There aren’t many creature comforts, we’ll be sleeping in bunk beds but we have access to a large mess hall for our meals.

Meals are included:

3 breakfasts, 3 lunches and 3 dinners as well as healthy snacks.

We’ll even include a morning cruise around Maria Island so you can see this stunning landscape as the early settlers and sailors would have seen it.

It’s a well-known spot for dolphins and whales so if we’re lucky we’ll get to see plenty of them and of course Maria Island is famous for its wombat population.

You’ll enjoy the relaxed pace of this three day weekend, with plenty of choices to relax if you don’t want to do all of the walks, although we can’t think of a walk that you won’t enjoy.

This experience will test your fitness, so you’ll need to talk to us before booking to ensure we can help you prepare accordingly. Trek poles and warm clothing will be needed, the weather can turn quickly so it’s always best to be prepared.

We will provide a suggested packing list. There are no vehicles on Maria Island apart from a few Parks Tasmania management vehicles so it’s a perfect spot to go exploring.

Information on payment details for payment for the Maria Island Experience can be found at end of this document. Places will be limited on this Adventure with a maximum of 8 participants.

Please feel free to contact Matt Jolley on 0400 207 303 or e mail info@bangfitness.com.au for more information.

BANG Fitness Adventures is here to help you find ways to make things happen for you. To help you overcome fears and doubts about what you can really achieve in your life, to help you create a new belief system based on you actually experiencing life. We are pleased that you have considered us to be a part of your experiences and we look forward to sharing the BANG Fitness Adventures Maria Island Experience with you.

Thursday 21st October – make your way to Hobart International Airport and you’ll be transported to the caravan park where we will stay the night in comfortable cabins. You won’t have to share, unless you’re bringing a partner! Flights are NOT included in the package fee so you’ll need to arrange those yourselves or we can put you in touch with our preferred travel agent.

We’ll have dinner nearby and then get a good night’s sleep ready for our next adventure!

Saturday morning we will be picked up around 7.30am and drive to Triabunna, arriving around 8.45am in time to board the 10.00am ferry to Maria Island.

Arriving around 11am we will make our way the 500 metres to the accommodation, there’s even trolleys to load the luggage in to get it there. We’ll have an early lunch and start our first walk of the weekend, the 12km round trip to Bishop and Clerk, which gives stunning views of the island. At around 620 metres above sea level it’s a great challenge.

We’ll return back to our accommodation in Darlington in time for you to explore the grounds and take some more photos, and we’ll go via Fossil Cliffs on the way back for some more exploring followed by dinner and a good night’s sleep!

Sunday morning we’ll tackle the Mt Maria Walk, 16km and approximately 8 hours return. Lots of up but again amazing views to see the entire island and the mainland (Tasmania that is). A short detour on the way back to Darlington to see the stunning Painted Cliffs.

More time to relax in the late afternoon before dinner.

Monday morning we’ll make our way to the port again for a morning cruise around Maria Island, and if we are lucky we’ll get to see some of the amazing sea life it is famous for.

After returning to Darlington for lunch we’ll grab our luggage and make our way back via ferry to Triabunna and then be transported back to Hobart International Airport.

Important things to note:

  • There is limited water on the island so we’ll need to boil any tank water before drinking.
  • There are NO shops on the island so if you want any late night snacks or refreshments, you’ll need to bring them with you. All meals are provided.
  • Luggage is limited to one small backpack and one larger piece of luggage with a 15kg limit.
  • Showers at our accommodation on the island are coin operated so bring some gold coins with you.
  • There is no electricity in the rooms on the island but there is electricity in the mess hall to recharge your phones, but it’s worth considering bringing a battery powered charger for your phone.
  • The accommodation at Darlington is not separate, there can be up to six people of mixed gender in each room, however they will only be from our group.
  • Flights are not included in the package – we ask that you get to Hobart before 9pm to allow you time to get some sleep before our Saturday morning departure, and aim for a flight home after 8pm on the Monday to allow time to return by bus from Triabunna. Generally domestic check in at airports is required an hour before flight time.
  • The walks are Grade 4 which requires some bushwalking experience. Please check with us to discuss your experience before booking.

Your BANG Fitness Adventures Maria Island Experience will be an investment of $1395.00, which includes three breakfasts, three lunches, three dinners, morning and afternoon teas, accommodation, Walks, transfers, Maria Island cruise and all Parks Fees.
