Thank you for your interest in participating in the Wilsons Prom Lighthouse Walk, approximately 40kms and two days of amazing scenery in the Wilsons Prom National Park, in Victoria, Australia.

Our Wilsons Prom Lighthouse Walk will commence with all participants meeting on Friday evening at Tidal River, Wilsons Prom National Park and staying in the Tidal River Cabins on Friday evening before commencing the Wilsons Prom Lighthouse Walk on Saturday morning, and then staying overnight at the Lighthouse Cottages, before returning to Tidal River on the Sunday.

Both days are approximately 20kms of walking, which will take between 6-8 hours, so it will be your responsibility that you can walk that distance over 8 hours, to ensure that the group can enjoy the afternoon at the Lighthouse and surrounds.

Our accommodation will be bunk beds in Tidal River Cabins and the Lighthouse Cottages. Please note that due to maximum participant numbers for our group being 10 due to Parks Victoria licence regulations, that there may be other users staying at the Lighthouse Cottage accommodation with us. We cannot guarantee that we will secure all available beds in each cottage which have a maximum of ten beds, nor can we guarantee that you won’t have a mixed gender room, or be required to sleep in a top bunk.

This document is not a comprehensive guide of all equipment you would need, nor does it provide everything you need to do in order to ensure your fitness levels are adequate for the Walk. BANG Fitness Adventures will discuss each individual’s fitness and medical concerns with the individual and will provide a training guide to be followed as well as free training events that participants can attend. Interstate and International participants will need to source suitable training facilities however BANG Fitness Adventures will endeavour to assist where possible with advice and support.

As a general rule, cross training will be the most suitable form of training, a mix of cardiovascular and resistance training to ensure adequate muscle strength and endurance and heart health. The intensity of each leg of the Wilsons Prom Lighthouse Walk will depend on many factors, some of which include weather, incline, surfaces, duration of each leg etc., so the more variety you can implement in your training the better prepared you are likely to be.

It is important to note though that the Wilsons Prom Lighthouse Walk is an experience, not a race. We will walk as a group, and participants can rest as required, and frequent breaks will be had to ensure we rehydrate and eat as well as stop to enjoy the stunning views.

PLEASE NOTE: ACCOMMODATION AT WILSONS PROM LIGHTHOUSE BOOKS OUT VERY QUICKLY AND AS SUCH PLACES WILL ONLY BE ALLOCATED TO THOSE WHO ARE ABLE TO COMMIT THEIR DEPOSIT IMMEDIATELY. BANG FITNESS ADVENTURES MAKES NO GUARANTEE WITH REGARD TO BEING ABLE TO SECURE ACCOMMODATION FOR ANYONE THAT DOES NOT PAY THEIR DEPOSIT IMMEDIATELY. DUE TO THE POPULARITY OF THIS EVENT PLACES WILL BE ALLOCATED IN ORDER OF DEPOSIT PAID AND WE CANNOT HOLD PLACES WHILST YOUR FRIENDS TAKE A WEEK TO MAKE UP THEIR MIND IF THEY CAN PARTICIPATE OR NOT!

The Wilsons Prom Lighthouse Walk will follow the plan laid below. Please note that the daily start/stop points may vary slightly due to inclement weather etc., however if we are prepared physically and with appropriate clothing etc., we shouldn’t have any dramas.

Day One – after meeting the evening before at our accommodation at Tidal River, we will have a hearty breakfast and then commence walking towards the Lighthouse, approximately 20kms away. We may take a slight detour to climb Mt Oberon for its amazing views on the way, and just to get the heart started! It’s not a very long ascent, but the views are well worth it.

We will reach the Lighthouse and explore the grounds and the views before a healthy dinner to refuel for the next day’s walk!

Day Two – After breakfast we head away from the Lighthouse towards Little Waterloo Bay for lunch, and  making our way back overland towards Tidal River again, with amazing views to enjoy!

Both the cabins for Friday evening’s accommodation and the Lighthouse Cottages for Saturday evening’s accommodation have showers, so you’ll need to bring your own toiletries. We will hire doonas for the Lighthouse accommodation and we will provide a bedsheet which you will need to carry, but you will need to provide your own bath towel, however you may wish to purchase a lightweight quick dry towel which will minimise the weight you’ll carry. Each participant may be requested to carry a small amount of the group food in their pack, so you’ll only need a day pack to carry toiletries, a change of clothes, a small amount of food and your snacks as well as water.  A camelback type pack won’t be big enough, you should aim at a pack around the size of a teenager’s school back pack.

Obviously we have no refrigeration facilities during the day so snacks need to be non-perishable and we are also highly aware of leaving the environment as we found it, so all rubbish and containers must be carried home with us so that the next users of the trail may enjoy it the same way we have.

We may meet other groups on the Wilsons Prom Lighthouse Walk and we encourage you to introduce yourselves and share experiences and impressions along the way. We are all there to enjoy an incredible experience and meet like-minded people.

Given the distance from towns, there are limited sources of fresh water available other than at the designated camp sites along the Walk that are maintained by Parks Victoria. We will be ensuring that we carry enough drink bottles to sustain us between accommodation and to purify water before drinking it if required. Water is available at the Lighthouse, however is usually in limited supply, so use sparingly and try to make sure your showers are quick!

Both days will involve 6 to 8 hours of walking over a variety of terrain, with plenty of time for taking photos, sitting and absorbing the incredible scenery nature has provided us, chatting with fellow participants, rehydrating and eating and simply resting up when we need a break. We want this to be an experience to savour, to relish and to immerse yourself into, coming out the other end with an appreciation of exactly what you are capable of and with a sense of perspective about how you can overcome future challenges in your lives.
